[edit] Preferences Dialog
You can open the Preferences dialog by either clicking on the IE7Pro icon in the statusbar and selecting "Preferences...", or from the Tools menu of Internet Explorer.
[edit] Page 1: Settings
The Settings page allows you to change basic settings of the way IE works.
[edit] Close Tab when double click
- Double-clicking on a tab will close it. This has the same effect as clicking on a tab with the middle mouse button.
[edit] Open new Tab from address bar
- A new tab will be created when addresses are manually typed into the address bar. This may not work if you select one from the drop-down list. This has the same effect as pressing Alt-Enter.
[edit] Open new Tab from search bar
- A new tab will be created when using the search bar. This has the same effect as pressing Alt-Enter.
[edit] Open new Tab from favorite
- Items opened from the Favorites Center will appear in a new tab, instead of the current one. This has the same effect as clicking on the item with the middle mouse button.
[edit] Enable Tab history manager
- The Tab history manager keeps a record of recently closed tabs, and is accesible from the status bar icon (see below on this page). If you do not wish to use this, you can turn it off.
[edit] Enable crash recovery
- If your Internet Explorer has not been closed properly or crashes due to a bug, you can recover the tabs which were open before IE crashed.
[edit] Proxy
- This option has no effect in IE7 on Windows Vista if the User Accounts Control (UAC) is turned on.
To turn the UAC off go to Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts\Turn User Account Control On or Off\ and uncheck the box
The following options require you to restart Internet Explorer before they will take effect.
[edit] Top IE menu
- The menu bar is displayed above the address bar should you choose to keep it enabled or view it once using the ALT key.
[edit] Hide search bar
- This option currently has no effect in IE7 on Windows Vista. See this page for details and a workaround.
[edit] Max connections per server
- This determines the number of parts of a webpage (i.e. images, HTML) that IE will download at once. The default is four; if you have a fast connection then setting it to 10 (or possibly higher) may speed up page load times.
[edit] User-Agent
- You can change the information that IE sends when it requests webpages. Websites will sometimes send alternate versions to different browsers or operating systems (for instance showing "Get Firefox" advertisements to Internet Explorer users only), or block unauthorised browsers from viewing the site at all. Changing this will allow you to view these pages. Changing the User Agent will not change the way that Internet Explorer renders webpages.
[edit] Page 2: Ad Blocker
This page contains settings to help block advertisements from downloading or showing on webpages. Flash blocking is currently disabled (in version 0.9.9). It will be reenabled in a future version. Similarly, text ads are usually not separate from the rest of the webpage and cannot currently be blocked by IE7Pro.
The Ad Blocker is enabled by default. It uses white- and black-lists to prevent Internet Explorer from downloading files that are likely to be ads. The whitelist (i.e. Permitted Files) overrides the blacklist (Blocked Files).
