  • Check ie7pro install directory, eg. c:/program files/ie7pro/ , and is there a dll file - ie7pro.dll .
  • You can Open a command prompt window. Navigate to the IE7pro install directory, which is typically something like c:\program files\ie7pro\.In this directory, you should find the file "ie7pro.dll". Run the following command in that directory: "regsvr32 ie7pro.dll".

Does IE7Pro work with IE6 ?

[edit] What is 'Max connections per server' for?

When we load a page like http://www.slashdot.org, it contains 1 html file, 23 image files and 4 css files from the Slashdot server (approximately). By default, IE will use 4 connections to load these 28 files; If you use 10 connections to download them and your internet connection is fast enough, the page will display quicker.

However, this violates section 8 of RFC 2068 and RFC 2616

   8.1.4 Practical Considerations
...
Clients that use persistent connections SHOULD limit the number of simultaneous connections that they maintain to a given server. A single-user client SHOULD NOT maintain more than 2 connections with any server or proxy. A proxy SHOULD use up to 2*N connections to another server or proxy, where N is the number of simultaneously active users. These guidelines are intended to improve HTTP response times and avoid congestion.

That said, while it violoates RFC 2068 and RFC 2616, those RFC's were written a LONG time ago and need revision; they are obsolete. With the advent of AJAX technology, anyone with an HTTP client stack limited to 2 connections will experience horrible delays on many websites, as each AJAX request uses one of the 2 pipes, all other requests, such as for images, will stop. It only takes 2 concurrent AJAX requests, which can be long running compared to resource requests to stopper-up a page so that it becomes completely non-responsive.

[edit] Is there a common place that IE7Pro settings are maintained, especially URL Aliases?

Settings and the Ad Filter URLS are stored in conf.ini and filter.ini respectively, in \Documents and Settings\<user-name>\Application Data\IE7pro\ in XP or \Users\<user-name>\AppData\LocalLow\IE7Pro in Vista.

[edit] How does the Search Alias feature in Preferences work?

  • Open the page you want to make an alias for.
  • Put some recognizable string (for instance, TEST) in the search field and perform the search.
  • Copy the resulting URL from the address bar and paste it in the "Engine" field of the "Search" options.
  • Then replace the previously entered string with {KW_UTF8} or {KW_LOCALE} - including the curly brackets - depending on the code-page used by the site. If you aren't sure, try {KW_UTF8} first.
  • Fill in the other fields as you wish and press the Add button.
  • Then you can enter in the address bar just the alias, a space and the search string and press Enter. That's it.

For example: to search www.imdb.com you could use:

    Name: IMDb
Alias: i
Engine: http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q={KW_UTF8}

[edit] What does the option Wide IE7Pro icon display area do when it is enabled?

  • IE7Pro may conflict with some add-ons, such as Google notebook. When this happens, the IE7Pro icon status bar will be replaced by the Google notebook icon. When you enable "Wide IE7Pro icon display area", both icons will be displayed.

[edit] About shows "the ie7pro BHO hasn't been loaded"

  • Enable 'enable third-party browser extensions' option within Tools > Internet options > Advanced settings

[edit] User Plug-in

[edit] How do I stop the "Connect to baremetal.com" dialog box from popping up when I am browsing?

  • Disable your "Server Info" plug-in, or uninstall your old version of ie7pro and update to new version 0.9.16 and above.

[edit] Why is my icon green?

  • When connecting to the internet via a proxy, the IE7Pro icon if displayed in the status area of the browser will turn from blue to green.
